World Diabetes Day is celebrated annually on November 14
This day was established in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in response to the alarming rise in diabetes cases worldwide. In 2007, it was officially recognized as a UN health day following a United Nations resolution in December 2006.
The date was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Frederick Banting, who, together with Charles Best, developed the first concept that led to the discovery of insulin in 1922.
Each year, the International Diabetes Federation organizes initiatives to raise awareness about the challenges and needs faced by people living with diabetes.
Pass it on!
