World Mental Health Day is celebrated on October 10th, with the aim of raising public awareness about the importance of mental health globally. This day seeks to highlight mental health as a common cause that affects all people, regardless of national, cultural, political, or socio-economic boundaries. Another key goal is to combat the stigma and prejudice that still surround mental health issues.
Established in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health, this day has been crucial in bringing mental health to the forefront of public discussions. The World Health Organization (WHO) also considers mental health a priority, emphasizing that it is not just a health issue but a multidisciplinary matter that affects many areas of society.
On World Mental Health Day, colloquiums and events are organized to find solutions to the challenges related to mental health and to coordinate efforts to fight this reality. This year’s theme is: “Mental Health Dignity: Mental and Psychological First Aid for All.”
Rising Cases of Depression
Mental disorders are on the rise and, regardless of their severity, are among the leading causes of disability in the 21st century. Depression, in particular, is the second leading cause of disability in the European Union and one of the greatest risk factors for suicide, highlighting the urgency to continue working towards improving mental health worldwide.
Pass it on.
