World Autism Awareness Day

Today we mark World Autism Awareness Day.
Let’s build bridges, not barriers together.
At the Luís Figo Foundation, we work towards promoting a more inclusive society, where every child has the right to grow up with dignity, respect, and equal opportunities. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding, accepting, and celebrating diversity.
Let’s raise awareness and act with empathy together!
Activities to promote awareness:
Reading stories about inclusion – children’s books that address autism in a positive way.
“A Day in My Shoes” – a roleplay activity where children experience sensory challenges.
Empathy Panel – a collaborative mural with messages and drawings about acceptance and respect for differences.
Circle of Words – a safe space where each child can share something about themselves.
Reading suggestions:
My Brother is Special by Ana Saldanha – a touching story about the relationship between siblings.
The Girl Who Learned Slowly by Luísa Ducla Soares – which addresses difference with sensitivity.
What is Autism? by Isabel Minhós Martins – a simple and accessible explanation for children.
